![]() ![]() While historical sources and imagery often depict a two finger draw, modern war bow shooters usually contend that three fingers is much easier. In Western European archery where the finger draw was more common, bows were typically made from longer staves, which were easier to draw with three fingers rather than one, the strain being spread across multiple digits. This also required the arrow to be on the right (for a RH archer) as the arrow would be knocked off if placed on the left. The short bow length meant that using the fingers caused uncomfortable arrow pinch, so using the thumb under the arrow was the most comfortable method with the cleanest release. Short bows, as typical of the composite or "horse" bows used by Eastern archers, are more effective with a thumb draw. To be very brief, the draw you use is typically based on the bow you are using. I also have this video discussing the issues of people projecting thoughts on which side of the bow to use. He has not studied and trained in the methods outlined.įor my part, I can offer a few brief overviews on specific methods: I cannot recommend a single thing be taken seriously from that video. His recent video is worse than his Modern vs Historical one, and is filled with contradictory assessments of artistic sources that he can't physically demonstrate, and he has revelations from a single bad shot that are absolutely baffling. With respect to Shadiversity as a popular history creator, he knows very little archery theory and practice and is making things up to fill the reality that he's already decided on.
